DHS Plans to Address Fentanyl Trafficking

The plan is part of a “multi-pronged” administration strategy.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced “Operation Blue Lotus,” the department’s new step in efforts to fight against the trafficking of fentanyl across the U.S.-Mexico border.

Their efforts have already “stopped more than 900 pounds of fentanyl from coming into the United States in its first week,” DHS stated. Their operation has led to 18 seizures, 16 federal arrests, and 2 state arrests as of March 21.

Secretary Mayorkas stated Operation Blue Lotus is part of the “multi-pronged strategy to combat the scourge of fentanyl that is devastating communities across the United States” of President Biden’s administration. He said it is an example of how the administration is “taking it to the cartels, to the traffickers, and we will not stop.”

Operation Blue Lotus is a coordinated effort between U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), who leads it, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and federal, state, tribal, and local partners. They are deploying additional personnel, technology, and other resources to the border at and between ports of entry.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Mayorkas as he implements the updated plan to address fentanyl smuggling.
  • For DHS, HSI, and CBP agents as they endeavor to reduce the amount of illicit drugs entering the nation.
  • For the president and his administration to continue to improve border security.
